This isn't anything to get too excited about, it's more a personal foray into UE5 after some time away from it. It's here as a tangible demonstration of my skill, and is likely to be followed by up to four other unlisted projects, provided that they are of a reasonable and permitted size.

Two things that bother me very much about Unreal are the sheer fatness of the files it produces, and the compile time for it (which isn't as bad as I'm making it sound, as I deal with this from GCC/G++ all the time). They have a new brother. It turns out that in spite of running smooth as melted butter on Linux as an engine, Unreal will not build for any non-Linux platform. Evidently the full scope of platform options is only available to Windows.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's a perfectly acceptable explanation for that—Epic has some mean engineers. I'm guessing it's some Ballmerian tie to the Microsoft VC++ API instead of MingW or some alternative. It's still a little exasperating though, as for nearly a decade I have not had to build for Windows, from Windows, even once. MingW is some powerful stuff.

My only remaining personal Windows machine is an IdeaPad with 8 GB of RAM on it, so we may have to wait until I figure out how I'm going to build this for anything else before it's fully available. I must admit it was a pretty painful let down to stumble into limitations like this. I'll probably just set up a server.
